Missing My Hero
I really do not mind the solitude at times, I have control of the TV, which is on a light classical music station all day. I keep scented candles lit and hang out in my warm, pink snuggie while feeding my cyber crack addictions or reading and sometimes working on a blanket. But I'll think of something I want to share, or just have the urge to snuggle up with him and then remember he is at the fire house.
I've taken to blogging to pass time as I've been told things I write can be interesting to read. I have two blog sites and will be posting the blogs on both until I figure out which site I like best. Then I will pick one and land there, or who knows maybe I will post everything to both sites.
I'll be on here stalking around for favorite bloggers to read too.
Ok off to work on a crochet project!
Our Very Cool Street
Last night was trick-or-treat night in our neighborhood. We couldn’t ask for a better night for Halloween to fall on than a Saturday. Everyone had all day to prepare.
My mom and sister came over to hand out candy with us and the neighbors. Mom looked up and down the street and said we had such a cool street and great neighbors. I glanced around and have to admit we really do! Up and down the street were lots of fire pits out at the end of driveways and almost every neighbor was either in their own driveway or on someone else’s to hand out candy. We had 4 house holds next door in Kim’s driveway to hand out the goodies so this was a treasure stop for the kids.
Kim had made a salsa dip, had candy corn and cookies, and later skyline dip and chips for the adults hanging at her house. The fire pit was going and she had a bunch of cold beer too! The teens from “The house of sin” were there for part of the fun as well. One of the teens dad dubbed the folks across the street the house of sin because it is rare everyone gathers there and doesn’t end up a bit tipsy. His daughter runs with their daughter so there are always a bunch of teens around after school and on weekends, all of which are fun to be around.
The adults on our street are great. Throughout the night adults would wander up and down to the driveways to socialize while handing out the candy, sharing laughs and a beer or two. It reminded me of the wind storm a little over a year ago that knocked out power to almost the entire region for up to a week or more. We were without it for 4 days. During that time most of us were outside sitting in driveways and at night had the fire pits going, we all grilled during the day and shared laughs and beer together waiting for life to return to normal. Some made new friends, some caught up with old ones. Everyone enjoyed it so much there was a collective groan when the power returned one evening.
We all watch out for each other here, keeping an eye out for trouble, chasing each others trash cans on windy days, pitching in when a neighbor has an issue. It really is a very cool street full of great people. We are blessed to live on such a great street!
